Yoga describes the yoking of the mind, body, and spirit together. Generally speaking spirituality is an individual experience. Everyone has their own unique outcome and expectations. Don't expect anything. Just make the effort and allow yourself to get out of your own way. It's that easy. And if you want to transform yourself from a sick stressed our body, constantly bombarded from stressful stimuli, yoga is an excellent way to do this.
My personal recommendations:
Meditation. Whether it's 5 minutes or 15, you will reap the benefits. 15min a day has been proven to turn off genetic cell markers for cell inflammatory response, which are directly linked to auto-immune diseases.
Post work out Yoga. Exercise typically engages your sympathetic nervous system, the fight or flight mechanism used for running away from a threat. What if you slowed down after a strenuous workout and engaged the parasympathetic nervous system? The relaxation response. You can take advantage of warm tissues and stretch them out to reset the length so that they don't pull on joints, bones, and vertebrae. Deep long breaths open your lungs and train associated muscles to allow you to continue to breathe better even after your workout.
Yoga before bed. The ultimate sleeping aid. I highly recommend those needing help with sleep practice directly before crawling into bed. It helps to have a dark cozy space with a mat, space heater, and any relaxing music or listening aids to help you enjoy your time. Just focus on deep slow breaths and choose stretches pertaining to what activities you've done that day. Whether it's 10 minutes or 60, you'll feel good during practice and reap the benefits into the next day.
Morning Yoga. Great for those with anxiety and those in need of grounding. Connecting your breath to the mind and body helping you to move through your day alert and relaxed.
Meditative practices for mental health. Coffee, alcohol, snacks, and social media are just dopamine hits for your brain. Choose to get it from your Yoga practice and you'll train your brain to find healthier options when stress attacks. Dancing, music listening, walks in nature, or any other fun activities that require your full focus are all meditative and will release dopamine.
Yoga also opens the energy pathways in meridians (like acupuncture). Like a faucet has been turned on. This treats the emotional, Mental, and physical environment of your whole being. Qigong and Tai Chi are also great meditative options for self-care of the energy body.
Let go of the idea of yoga as just postures and esoteric ideas.
NAMASTE means: the divine in me recognizes and acknowledges the divine in you:)
